Taylor Emmet | Sale of Serrations Ltd to Kaleidex Group

Serrations Ltd had spent more than 30 years building a specialist manufacturing business serving the medical-device sector. In December 2025, its shareholders completed the sale of the company to Kaleidex Group, with Taylor Emmet advising the shareholders throughout the transaction.

What interested me about this transaction was the range of commercial considerations sitting behind what could initially appear to be a straightforward sale. The shareholders were not simply transferring ownership. They were exiting a business they had built over decades, while the buyer was acquiring specialist manufacturing expertise, an established workforce and an existing position within the medical-device sector.

This meant that legal advice had to account for more than the mechanics of the transaction. Due diligence, the Share Purchase Agreement, employment considerations and the company's property arrangements all had the potential to affect the risk, value and practical outcome of the deal. For me, this demonstrates the commercial role of a solicitor particularly well. The lawyer needs to understand what is important to the client commercially, where risk sits, and how different legal issues interact with the overall transaction.

The successful outcome also demonstrates that commercial legal work is collaborative. Taylor Emmet coordinated its Corporate, Employment and Commercial Property expertise alongside the shareholders' other advisers to keep the transaction progressing towards completion.

What I take from this: commercial awareness is not simply knowing about business news. It is understanding how a business decision creates interconnected legal and commercial consequences — and how a solicitor can help a client navigate them.

Property Management & Short- term lettings assistant

November 2025 – present
  • Assisted with prospecting and advertising, attending meetings with prospective landlords and supporting client pitches.
  • Supported the day-to-day management of short-term rental properties, managing guest communication, landlord relationships and administrative coordination.
  • Coordinated cleaning, maintenance and property preparation to ensure properties were ready between guest stays.
  • Managed social media content and completed a photography course to produce professional property photography for Airbnb listings.

What this experience taught me:

Working in property management gave me experience of balancing commercial objectives with client expectations. Supporting landlord pitches and prospecting showed me the importance of understanding what a client wants to achieve, while managing properties required coordination across landlords, guests, cleaners and maintenance providers. It strengthened my ability to communicate clearly, manage competing priorities and maintain a professional client experience.

What this experience taught me:

Working as a paralegal showed me that effective legal work requires more than knowledge of the law. I learned to manage competing deadlines, identify the information that mattered within large volumes of material, and communicate accurately with different stakeholders. It also gave me an understanding of the responsibility that comes with handling client matters and supporting solicitors in practice.

What this experience taught me:

Advocating on civil and criminal justice issues strengthened my ability to analyse unfamiliar legal problems and communicate a clear position to different audiences. It required me to consider competing perspectives, identify the strongest arguments and present information in a way that was accessible and persuasive. The experience developed my confidence in advocacy while reinforcing the importance of preparation, clarity and adapting communication to the person in front of me.

International Legal Exposure

My internship at New York Law School gave me exposure to a different legal education and professional environment. Working alongside students and engaging with unfamiliar legal perspectives required me to adapt quickly and communicate confidently. I also participated in a moot court competition, developing my ability to structure an argument, respond to challenge and think on my feet.


Problem Solving in Practice

Turning a complex problem into a clear course of action

I recently managed a long-running housing issue involving damp and mould, where progress depended on understanding a large amount of information spread across months of correspondence and multiple parties.

Rather than treating each communication as a separate issue, I created a detailed chronology of events, organised supporting evidence and tracked the responses and actions taken at each stage. This gave me a clear picture of how the issue had developed and allowed me to identify gaps in communication, unresolved concerns and areas where previous actions had not addressed the underlying problem.

The process required patience and attention to detail, particularly when revisiting information from different points in time. I found it valuable to turn a complicated and frustrating situation into something structured and manageable.

The experience reinforced the importance of approaching complex problems methodically: establishing the facts, identifying gaps, considering the wider picture and determining the most effective next step.


Beyond the Law

Outside of my professional life

Literature reminds me that many people before me have experienced feelings that can sometimes feel isolating. I enjoy finding comfort in stories that put those feelings into words and offer a different perspective on experiences that can otherwise feel very personal.

Photography is a fun way for me to capture moments that I want to remember. I enjoy being able to preserve a feeling, place or moment in a single image.

For me, the gym keeps my mind sharp and gives me a way to challenge myself physically. It reminds me that I am often capable of more than I initially think, and that the limits I place on myself are not always as fixed as they seem.
